two weeks back, about an hour before we caught ice age 3, we decided to have a heavy early dinner at siam kitchen. we've been to this place for so many times, and we never got sick of it. i love the quiet environment and fantastic service at the suntec city outlet. so far, this is the only outlet i've been to, therefore have yet to find critics in other outlets.

i'd prefer dinner buffet to alarcarte since i think it's worth the bucks, but it's always up to you. (:

ps: i'm still a little too sick, so this post my not convince any of you people anyway.

i know i have been such a good procrastinator. but the makan sutra goes on, and the updates are just as shown below!

pizza hut, as you can see almost every part of singapore, is one of my favourite dine-ins. honestly, i have been ordering almost the same type of dish. the very first,

is the ice lemon tea. sometimes, the syrup's just not enough so fahmi and i had to ask for one more bottle. let's not talk about diabetes yet.

i've always loved their criss-cut fries - don't know if the spelling is right, but who cares! (:

i'm not a big fan of baked rice, but i just thought of trying since fahmi loves baked rice. the Oriental Chicken is not bad, and since i love anything spicy, this is just nice for me. (:

[to people who don't eat spicy stuff, don't order this. it gets to my ears, really.]

and this lastly, is the most important part of all - the Ocean Catch. i love it since it's really soft and filling. i do love others too (tell me something i don't other than the kind of food that caused the h1n1), but this is just my favourite and i know not many order this since the hawaiian is at top of list.

okay, enough of pizza hut. now i'm bringing you somewhere else.

let's try the spagetti too!

so far i've only known of this branch, and they should open up more because i love it here. the food is cheap and it's one of the nicest places i've eaten so far.

be warned.

these are the nicest homemade soups i've ever tasted. those are the corn and mushroom soups. the colours might look disgusting (or like vomit?) but the taste is awesome. and it's only 2++ bucks. affordable.

this is half fahmi's and mine. they do give the portion for the fish-and-chips rather bigger than the chicken, and although my heart kinda complained about my little portion of chicken, i felt really filling after getting to finish up almost everything.

there is another side dish i forgot to take a snap of - the mash potato. and it's really nice too. i'll be going there again soon and remember to snap snap more images of the food. =D

i came to 18 chefs few days ago too, but the images didn't turn out too nice. oh god, so many sinful places. :p

Kebab Station

I have been passing by the Kebab Station many times, and last Sunday was the first time I was able to taste the turkish dishes there.

I would rate the restaurant 4 out of 5 stars, just as similar to how I would rate Istanbul Gourmet in the previous post.

The service is superb, and they chef and waiters are genuinely nice.

You should give it a try~ (:

Meringue.

People would normally call it "macaroon", but this is actually called Meringue. The macaroon recipe involves coconut flakes or shredded coconut, but not Meringue. (:

One thing good about Meringue is that you can design your own recipe. I've tried with cornflakes, koko krunch, coco pops, small semi-sweet hersheys chocolate chips, or many others.

The Recipe

6 large eggs whites
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon cream of tar tar (mind you, cream of tar tar is not tar tar sauce. hoho!)
1 1/2 cup (150g) superfine or caster sugar

Preheat - 200 degrees F / 105 degrees C

Beat the egg whites on medium speed till foamy. Add cream of tar tar and continue to beat the whites until they hold soft peaks. Add sugar, a little at a time, and continue beating untill it turns stiff. Beat in the vanilla extract, and continue beating until the meringue turns stiff or slightly hardened.

Add whatever your want with it; choc chips, koko krunch, etc.

Bake the meringue for 1.5 to 1.75 hours, rotating the baking sheet from front to back about half way through.

And you're done!

Dear Nur,

I hope all's well with you. If you are wondering if why I am writing to you, I wish to share with you an experience that had changed my entire life, and I hope it can help you too.

People who know me will know that I used to be an air stewardess in Japan Airlines until 10 years ago when I decided to change my career for the better. Since then I had attended many motivational trainings such as Anthony Robbins and Tom Hopkins (I was even Tom Hopkins's Emcee for his seminar of 3000 people in Taiwan), which attributed to my success in my career, and I became a millionaire in 2003.

And in my vastly successful years, I trained 5 of my students to be Millionaires.

But many people thought that I am a very successful lady with great career and family etc, but they are not wrong. In fact I was also wrong, I thought I will be happy with all the glory and wealth, and respect from people.

In my career as a trainer and coach, I am always struggling to find an answer for a common problem. Being a trainer, I always see people attending course after course, seminar after seminar, but they still cannot achieve what they want and are still very unhappy eventually. After each seminar or training, the better ones will sustain the motivated energy for a few days before they are back to their original state again.

I am always searching for an answer for what is actually stopping people from succeeding, what is actually the hidden factor, why people know what to do but simply refuse to work towards it .

Two years ago in 2006,during a personal relationship crisis in my own life, I lost my marriage and my wealth overnight. My ex-husband went off with someone from Mainland China, and my business came crumbling down. My life turned into living Hell overnight, with debts left over by my previous company. Thousands of dollars of my savings were stuck in my old company, and I couldn't fish it out. My ex-company got in lawsuits with many of our suppliers, and life was tough. I was now a single mum with 2 children, living off my savings, which dwindled by the day.

Sounds familiar? Like an Mediacorp TV 8 Drama. Yes, It was that dramatic.

When I was having my bout of depression for two years, with no answers left in my life, through a turn of events,I came across the remarkable work of Dr. Chuck and Lency Spezzano, in Psychology of Vision. I can honestly say that what I learnt from them and the trainers within their organisation has changed my life.

Not only did I understand why my marriage had failed, I also learn a lot more about my own personality and the way in which I had held myself back throughout life. Most importantly, it also gives me an answer why motivational seminars don't work for many people.

Spaghetti Bolognese

I made this meal early this week and was too busy to update, so yeah, here's the recipe! (:

Spaghetti Bolognese

Spaghetti noodle

1 packet of spaghetti
1 spoon olive oil
1/2 teaspoon salt

The olive oil is used so that the spaghetti will not stick to each other easily. It's a healthier choice compared to butter, margarine or normal cooking oil. Salt is to add a little taste to the spaghetti. Boil the spaghetti till it's soft.

Spaghetti sauce

2 tablespoon of olive oil
3 large onions
1 small can of tomato paste
3 table spoon of tomato sauce
6 fresh tomatoes
2 teaspoon of salt
2 1/2 tablespoon of sugar
2 kg of minced beef
1 kg of minced chicken
12 pieces of prawns (up to you, more if you're a prawn lover)
1/3 packet fresh parsley leaves, usually bought from ntuc fairprice
oregano
parsley flakes
black pepper
white pepper
1/2 lemon

Preparations

Cut the onions into small cubes. The smaller, the better, because we wouldn't want to taste much of onions in spaghetti.
Boil the tomatoes. After boiling, peel the tomato skin and get rid of the seeds. Keep the remaining for cooking.
Wash the minced beef and chicken until it's clean. It's up to you to choose your type of meat. I used both to try out, but beef if more preferable for me.
Peel of the prawn shells and wash them.
Wash the parsley leaves until it's clean.

Instructions

Pour the olive oil into the cooking bowl. Wait for 2 min until it's hot.
Add the onions into the bowl. Stir it well.
When the onions are soft and the smell has risen, add the tomato paste, the fresh tomatoes and tomato sauce into the cooking bowl. Tomato sauce is used because it has its salty taste. Add 1/2 cup of water so that the sauce will not look too thick. Add the salt and sugar as well. Sugar is used to balance the taste of the sauce.
After stirring for about 3 to 5 min, depending by the smell of the sauce, add in the minced beef and chicken. It will take slightly longer time to cook the beef (about 10-15min).
Add the prawns. Prawns take a quite fast to cook. Overcook will make the prawns look smaller.
Add in the parsley flakes, oregano and parsley leaves. For parsley flakes and oregano you may want to gauge how much you want to add in. I think more oregano taste better. (:
Add black pepper and white pepper. Gauge how spicy you want your sauce to be. White pepper is healthier choice, although to me it'll turn out spicier.
Lastly, add half the juice of fresh lemon for its sour taste.
Wait till about 10 min for the sauce to boil.

Then you're done to dine! Enjoy! =D

The Cheesecake

Graham Cracker Crust:

2 cups (200 grams) graham wafer crumbs or crushed digestive cookies
2 tablespoons (30 grams) granulated white sugar
1/2 cup (113 grams) unsalted butter, melted

Cheesecake Filling:

2 - 8 ounces (454 grams) cream cheese, softened
1/2 cup (100 grams) granulated white sugar
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
2 large eggs

Preheat oven to 325 degrees F (160 degrees C) and place the rack in the center of the oven. Have ready a 9 x 13 x 2 inch (23 x 33 x 5 cm) square baking pan that has been lined with aluminum foil across the bottom and up two opposite sides of the pan. Set aside.

Graham Cracker Crust: In a small bowl combine the graham cracker crumbs, sugar, and melted butter. Press mixture evenly over the bottom of the prepared pan. Bake in preheated oven for 10 minutes. Set aside to cool.

Increase the oven temperature to 350 degrees F (180 degrees C).

Cheesecake Filling: In the bowl of your electric mixer, or with a hand mixer, beat the cream cheese until smooth. Add the sugar, lemon juice, and vanilla extract and beat until smooth. Add the eggs, one at a time, beating until incorporated. Scrape down the sides of the bowl, as needed. Pour the cheesecake filling over the graham cracker base and bake for about 20 minutes or until the cheesecake batter is just set.

Remove from oven and place on a wire rack to cool. Place in the refrigerator for a few hours to make the squares easier to cut. To cut into squares - place on a cutting board, remove the foil, and with a sharp knife, cut into 2 inch squares. Have a damp cloth on hand to wipe the knife between cuts.

That's all!

to those who know me very well, or rather well enough, i have cravings for sushi every now & then. i would get the unagi (eel), crabmayo, tuna, egg, cornmayo, salmon & many many many others. yesterday while i was doing grocery shopping, i stared at the seaweed package so long, i could actually burn a hole in it, considering me = superwoman.

i made the crabmayo & tuna sushi today.

recipe:
3 cups of sushi rice (normal rice is still alright)
3 cups of water
1/3 cup of vinegar
1/3 cup of fine sugar
1 teaspoon of salt
8 - 10 sticks of crabmeat
mayonnaise
1 can of tuna

how to make the rice?

it may require a lot of time to make.

wash the rice completely till it's clean. it will take you about 3 minutes.
soak the rice in cold water for about 30-45 minutes.
after soaking the rice, cook it as per usual.

leave the rice to cool down for an hour. make sure the rice cooker is off.
at the same time, mix the vinegar, sugar and salt and stir until they're completely dissolved.
after the rice is cooled, transfer the rice into a bowl, and pour the mixture of vinegar, sugar and salt onto it. mix and stir well.
keep the rice cool inside the refrigerator for about another 45 minutes.

waa laa! your rice is done!
